It depends on what type of wood golf club you’re talking about. In this modern age, most (if not all) players use metal-woods, which are actually made of metal with a graphite shaft (it’s just called woods ’cause that’s what they used to make them out of).
Professionals can hit their drivers (1-wood) over 300 yards, but most golfers hover around 225 yards, if they are consistent (if they aren’t, then no one would know). For pros, a 3-wood would go about 260 yards, and a 5-wood 230. For regular golfers, a 3-wood should go about 200 yards, while a 5 wood should go about 180 yards.

how long is a piece of string
We don`t use wood anymore, most drivers are steel or titanium.
how long is a piece of string?
Each person is different. With a 100mph club head speed the ball should fly about 220yds and then roll a bit with a driver.
If you’re 6′3″ and strong like me, it is possible, with no wind, and a perfect release of the wrists to get the ball to fly 270 and run over 300yds.
That happens for me about once every 6 rounds. The rest of the time I slice the little MF or pull it, or sky it as I am far too right handed and chuck myself at it.
I know better but just can’t bring myself to swing conservatively.
My handicap is 12.6 and has been as low as 11.5 and I have broken 80 4 times. I have been playing for 3 years and 2 months. I have had a handicap for 2 years
It’s not so much about the weapon, it’s more about the warrior.
Who the hitter…or avg.(260) yards
I can throw my driver about 35 feet, occasionally a little more when I hit a really bad shot. I throw my three and five wood about 5 feet shorter, then again I don’t mishit them as often. My record for a single round of golf is 412 feet (cumulative thrown distance of all 3 woods for all 18 holes). I broke 100 that day shot 107 and hit three people on the course with my clubs.
