Golf Club Help What Should I Get!!!?

Posted by admin

I am very new to golf and am looking at buying a Iron golf club. What type of iron (number, like 4 iron or 9 iron not brand) should I get and what are the differences between say a 3 Iron and a 9 Iron?

  1. DaeScope Said,

Well usually you buy golf clubs you buy:
    Iron in sets,
Putter separately unless your getting a cheap/bargain iron set which includes the putter
And Woods are sold separately, often sometimes in a set.
The difference between a 3 iron and a 9 iron is the degree in which the face of the club is open and the length. For your long irons (3,4,5) they are inclined at different angles for a desired length and loft
i.e so like your 190 yards from the green and you know you can’t hit your wood as you know you will over shoot the green so you take a 3 iron which you know if you hit it hard it will make it while while a 9 iron has a greater club head angle hence it won’t travel as far usually used in about 90-120 meters.
*Not actual figures depends player to player.
Usually you want to get a full set it will save you a bit of money then buying individually also golf is a sport which reflects you social status or is mostly seen as one hence you don’t want to be seen as a cheap person buy having like 5 or 6 clubs instead of a full set.
But if you don’t care id recommend a Putter, Pitching wedge,Sand wedge, 9, 7, 5, 3, Driver, 3 wood (fairway wood) and a 5 wood (optional).
Since your a beginner i don’t expect you to be hitting a lot of irons and will mostly be hitting your second shoots with a fairway wood since you need to develop your swing and the can start using long irons (2 (uncommon now days people use hybrids),3,4)

If you are buying an individual iron, I would look at either a 7 or 8 iron.
This club has enough loft and not too long a shaft to make it easy to hit. It is also very versatile and you can use it for shots from around 170 yards right up to bump and runs and chips around the green.
The main differences between clubs are loft angle (the angle between the clubface and the ground – to picture it imagine the elevation of a cannon) , lie angle (the angle the shaft comes off the clubhead) and shaft length.
The lower numbered clubs are designed to hit the ball further on a lower trajectory. For this reason they have longer shafts and less loft. Longer clubs also have slightly flatter (lower) lie angles.
Once you have grooved a swing and hit the ball consistently, all of these areas can be adjusted by a custom fitter to better suit you.

My starter set consisted of a 1 wood and 3 wood, and a 3,5,7,9 iron, pitching wedge and putter. The difference between all clubs is the angle of the club head in relationship to the ground and the length of the club. A 3 iron is longer then a 9 iron and the angle in relationship to the ball is less for a 3 iron.

If you are new to golf, maybe there is hope for you yet. Quickly….STOP playing golf. It is a waste of time and is generally the most ignorant game i’ve ever seen.
