I want to join a golf club however, they are insisting I have a golf handicap first. I have come accross several companies online that will provide you with a handicap certificate once you send in 3 signed score cards. However, which one is the most credible and recognised in England?

Surely you get handicapped at the new course you play/join for it could be easier or harder than what you have handed in, I would join a club that does thing properly!

Any golf club worth its joining fee will tell you to play minimum of 3 rounds with another member and submit them to the handicap Secretary. He will then work out your handicap from them, you have to have a handicap before you can enter your clubs comps. You will then receive a GONGU handicap certificate. For the club to say you need one before you join is madness, how do they get new players into the club and promote the game of golf?
