I am a beginner/intermediate golfer. I am looking for a new package set of clubs as I don’t want to splash out on irons or drivers at the moment.
I was wondering if anyone could recommend either Wilson or Ben Sayers in terms of their quality and performance?
Thanks for all responses!
I have been looking and the most common package sets around seem to be Ram, Wilson and Ben Sayers. I have already had a bad experience with Ram so I am ruling them out.

ben sayers are made in the united kingdom. they are far from a starter set. great great set of clubs. high quality very very good price. super easy to hit. there really is no option. you will be very very happy with these clubs. pure quality lucky find. Cadillac clubs Volkswagen price.
The Ben Sayers M7 package set and Wilson Draw RX are both great package sets for beginners, so really its personal preference between the 2. As a beginner, it could be beneficial to get graphite shafts as these will promote a faster swing speed and give you greater distance.
As they say, it’s the Indian, not the arrow. Instead of looking at a BRAND, you need to look at a TYPE of clubs. As a beginner, you should look for clubs labeled “Game Improvement” clubs.
These kinds of clubs are designed for people who don’t hit it on the center of the face most of the time. They’re more forgiving.
Asking someone for a brand is meaningless. You need to pick out 2 or 3 sets that are within your price point and try them at the driving range to see what works FOR YOU.
Get Titleist. I have been using them for years and they are amazing! From drivers to putters to wedges – I buy all my clubs at NJGolfman http://www.njgolfman.com/titleist.html
Wilson, I have never heard of Ben Sayers.
wilsons are a lot better than ben sayers
My first set of clubs was a set of Wilson Pro Staffs. They were the package deal of Driver, woods and irons. I learned the game with them and they worked fine. After two years I ended up buying a set of Ram clubs and those also helped me progress. I know you are looking to stay away from Ram, however I would definitely not say that Wilson is any better than Ram. As for the Ben Sayers, I have never used them but they are on the same range as the Wilson and Ram clubs. Most of those clubs in that price range ($150-200) for the whole set are going to be using the same cavity back designs and large over-sized heads for forgiveness. Maxfli also offers clubs in this price range that come stock with Adila shafts which are actually quite nice. Any packages that you buy WITH driver and woods will by ok irons but the drivers are typically aluminum with a titanium face (not very good). Your best bet would be to buy a set of irons (without the driver and woods) and then buy the driver/woods separately as they will be much better quality.
My brother is new to golf as well and needed new irons, so I went to Dick’s Sporting Goods and looked at all of their clubs (because we couldnt wait to buy them online as we were going to play that day). In the price range of $129 (full set of Walter Hagan clubs with driver and woods) up to $199 (3-PW for a set of Adams Golf XTD irons), we decided to go with the Adams Golf irons and get him a driver and woods at another time. The reason for this is because all of the sets under $200 that came with a driver, had aluminum headed drivers with a titanium face. This is very old technology and frankly very cheap. It will get the job done if you just want to learn how to swing but they can be very inconsistant from club to club and you may get a good one or may not. Maxfli makes a decent “full set” of irons that comes with the Driver and woods (3,5) and was only $250. I would have gone with these had they not been hybrid 3 iron and 4 irons. I will attach the links for the clubs I have mentioned for you to look at and read the reviews on. My recommendation to beginners is to buy a cheap ($) set of clubs but not a cheap set (cheaply made). Try to find a used set of Taylormades, Callaways, Pings, etc… because you know the companies have spent the money in design to produce a competitive club. Other companies such as Ram and Wilson do not spend the big bucks in design. They make their money selling cheaper products to the masses.
Again, Wilson clubs will teach you golf as will any clubs. However, there will come a point where you may begin to wonder if you are being slowed down in progression due to the quality of your clubs. Why not just buy a “good” set of used irons (obviously in good shape from Ebay or craigslist or pro-shop…etc…) and know that it’s not the clubs hindering you? The best thing you can do for yourself is to go to a local sporting goods store or pro shop and hit all the different clubs you can. Find a set that just “feels” good and you hit well, then go buy them. Swing the more expensive ones too to see if you hit them any better. You may be able to get the Taylormade R7s used on Ebay for less than the Wilson’s you were looking at and they would be a MUCH better quality club. Besides, the first swing you take with your new irons will make them used anyways right?
