tipped usually refers to when the tip of the shaft has been modified to stiffen the shaft a bit more. they usually cut 1/2” to an inch or however much to still fit it into the club head, at the tip which will make the shaft less flexible. if i’m correct, ppl who are in between stiffness of shafts usually tip their shafts esp on their drivers or players who want even more of a boring low ball flight. it’s usually requested by the high swing speed players who are borderline stiff – xstiff.
i never understood the concept of tipping ur shafts but when i was working for a golf retail store, i’ve had numerous requests by decent golfers who i’ve personally played w/ have it done. this became such a popularity that some shaft manufacturers made their shafts pre-tipped and call it “tip stiff” like ust’s and graffalloys.

not real sure what you mean, but some shafts are mult-material meaning it could be graphite and the tip steel or steel and the tip graphite….adams had some clubs like this a few years ago
