I am an above average golfer in my opinion and have a 10.4 handicap with an average drive of 240 yards with a draw, and I am always attempting to improve my golf swing whether it is through magazines, reading on-line, or watching television. The main thing I notice is that golfers are always talking about generating power through legs and hips. Whenever I attempt to use more legs and hips I either move forward and hit off the heel, or get a major slice. My current swing I just keep a large majority of weight on my back foot for as long as I possibly can. I know that this can result in duck hooks, but I only get about one of these at most a round. Please offer any advise or drills so I can figure out how to use more hips and legs.

Look through the recent issues of Golf Digest and you will see all the hints for generating power including the use of the legs. If you are hitting a 240 yard draw consistently well, why fool around ?
I have just got this down, not that it works with every drive but as a golfer you know every stroke is never the same. When I take the club back I take my front foot a bit off the ground (I know this is not proper golf ettiquite for a drive), when I bring the club forward I shift my weight from one leg to the other. Very similar to how you would swing a bat at a ball. You keep the same grip and the same swing the only difference is the movement of your body. Most important is to keep your eye on the ball and consciencously know where the club face is going to hit the ball. I was getting about 170 on my drives and I am female, if I hit it right with this method I can hit 200 and it feels great. I bought the practice balls and spent some time on the range before I tried this on the course, as some went about 2 feet off the tee because it alters your down swing.
Try this: Put your attention on your belt-buckle, try to turn it 45 degrees to the back while your shoulder should turn about 80-90 degrees to the back on a FULL-UP-SWING. (You can start by a half or 3/4 swing too)
On the DOWN-SWING, focusing on swing your belt-buckle from the back to the middle, where it’s pointing the ball, and finally to the front facing the target. And try to focus your attention on doing that, instead of your arms and your shoulder. (Your arms and shoulders will following your hips turning).
This drill should make you lead your down-swing with your low-body turning first, thus generate more power.

As a teaching pro I would need to stand in front of you to show you what you need to do. Essentially your legs create the tension between your two coils which in turn provide the power which gives you distance.
There are a lot of different aspects that come into play with the legs.

You have to maintain some flex in your knees or else you’re gonna hit some thin shots and top the ball. To make solid contact, you have to maintain the flex in your knees and stay down and rotate through the shot. You have to use your legs to do this. Watch Tiger Woods’ swing in slow motion. On his down swing, he will do what I call a semi squat first. He’ll use his legs to start his down swing.
