Super Mario 64 Ds: Final Battle With Bowser: How Do You Kill Him After The Arena Has Changed To A Star Shape?

Hi!
I have so far been fine with Super Mario 64 DS game, but now I am totally and utterly stuck!
On the final level with Bowser, I can swing him and get him to hit the spiky balls twice, but once the arena becomes a star shape I simply can’t swing him far eniugh! Any tips, advice, or better tactics?
