Depends what you are looking for. Are you looking for a club to join? or a course to play with friends? do you want to compare difficulty, overall enjoyment, value for money.
I would sum it up like this – I’ve played there about 12 times or so:
The work society I played with went to Wentworth twice a year until the prices and service went silly. We moved to what was then Stoke Poges and went from paying £150 for golf to £62. Within three years, what became Stoke Park had been redeveloped and prices rocketed just like Wentworth. It’s a very nice course, but has quickly become another “lifestyle” club, where in my opinion you are paying a whopping premium to rub shoulders with people who are as rich as you, and can afford to be there.
There would be many clubs around London with equally good courses and atmosphere for half the price – green fees or membership.
I’m only familiar with clubs north of London, and in that group I would put forward Burnham Beeches (very close to Stoke Park)and Berkhamsted, as being every bit as good as Stoke Park, and undoubtedly cheaper.
Stoke Park doesn’t offer value for money.
